Mike Murphy:

Welcome to another episode of The ABB Solutions Podcast where we address challenges facing our industry and solutions to overcome them. I'm your host, Mike Murphy, speaking to you from Greenville, South Carolina. Today we have Mac McGhee, Training Manager for Baldor-Reliance NEMA motors, I asked Mac to come speak with us on what we have to offer for product training. So Mac, can you discuss some of the courses we have available?

Mac McGhee:

Yeah, sure, we've got three different courses that we offer, through the My Learning portal for people to enroll in and learn more about our products. First of all, we got K315, which is the class called Fundamentals of Motors. We also have K507, which is our Baldor-Reliance Motor Academy. And we also have K319, which is Cooling Tower, Direct Drive Motor Selection and Application class. Talking about Fundamentals of Motors. That's a class that the title of it's pretty self explanatory. It does teach about the motor fundamentals, the theory behind electric motors and how they work. on how they're put together, all the parts of the motor, and we do delve a little bit into product lines in that class, but it's fundamentals based motors class. And that's a two day class. And it's also virtual, all these classes, by the way, are going to be virtual, during 2021. We've also got K507, which is the Baldor-Reliance Motor Academy. That class basically showcases all of our different product lines. So we're going to have segment managers and segment specialists giving presentations during that class that will discuss everything from general purpose, severe duty, wash down, RPM-AC, EC Titanium, and so on, and so on. All the product lines. And we'll also talk about our facilities. Ft. Smith plant and and the R&D here. So that's a good class to learn more about the actual product lines.

Mike Murphy:

Okay, great. So it sounds like they pretty much take the products found in our motor catalog, our 501 catalog, and just dive deeper into that.

Mac McGhee:

Yes, exactly. They're able to take questions, you know, these are live classes, even though they are virtual. So they're able to take questions directly from the students. If they have any type of specific issue going on with products or if they have a question on the product, they want to know about, the segment, manager segment specialist is able to answer that question. And you know, it's a good way to solve issues or learn more about the product.

Mike Murphy:

And you said there's a more of a specialized class and for cooling towers, is that correct?

Mac McGhee:

Yeah, K319, which is the cooling tower motor selection and application. And this will be given by that segment group that deals just with the cooling tower product. So you'll get the the guys that do that every day. It's this is just a two hour class. It's offered twice this year. It'll be offered in in May and October of 2021. So it's a short class, but it's a it's a good class to learn about selection and application for the cooling tower product.

Mike Murphy:

Let's say a customer wants to sign up for either the Fundamentals of Motors or the Academy, where do they go?

Mac McGhee:

All they have to do is go to mylearning@abb.com And if they haven't registered, they will have to create an account on there. It's a very simple process to do. I think basically you just need your name, your email address, but you can it's very easy to read to create an account. Once an account is created, then they can just do a search in the catalog for K315, K315 for Fundamentals, K507 for the Baldor-Reliance Motor Academy, and K319, K319, for the Cooling Tower Direct Drive Class. Very simple to do and very simple to to register. It just like a one click button to register for each class.

Mike Murphy:

Okay, so then the dates, the offerings will be assigned as well?

Mac McGhee:

Yes, when you do the search in the catalog, it'll bring up all the upcoming classes and their dates, and the times and all that. So you can look at your calendar and pick the best course for your schedule.

Mike Murphy:

Okay, great. And what is the platform you mentioned? All these are virtual what what's the platform that students will be on?

Mac McGhee:

Yeah, what we do is once everybody has, has registered, usually a couple weeks before the class starts, we'll send out invites from Microsoft Teams and it'll have all the session information and all you have to do is you know, click on it. It'll go into your email and into your calendar and even if you don't have Microsoft Teams, on your PC, it'll still work through your browser. So, but the platform is Microsoft Teams and all the presentations are given through that using a meeting type format. The presenter will share their screen. You can see their content and hear their audio and learn about what they're trying to talk about there. So it's it is Microsoft Team based, but you don't have to have Microsoft Teams to use it.

Mike Murphy:

Well, hey, that's all we have for product training. I want to thank Mac for updating us on our training opportunities.
